Talalay Latex Mattresses
Okay, let's get into it. We're going to take a look at some of the leading suppliers of Talalay mattresses
and try to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.
Flobeds Latex Mattress - The Original
The first company we are going to take a look at is Flobeds. I don't know if they are the original, but could be
:) Their web site could use some work, but when it comes to product, they seem to hitting on all cylinders.
They make a point of telling you how other manufacturers could be scrimping on latex, and giving you less than you
thought you were buying. Some keys points to consider:
- They cover their gorgeous Talalay latex mattress with quilted organic cotton. Not
a bad start....
- Their mattresses feature extra thick 8" or 10" latex. This is huge folks. Talalay latex is not cheap. These
units have a 6" or 9" solid core, plus another 2" topper with crenellations for extra comfort.
- 13 different firmness settings are available (!). Guess they want to make sure they get everyone form
Marines to grandma...
- Seems that some manufacturers try to skimp by trumpeting a "firmness border". What this really means is
that they are giving you cheap polyurethane foam in a 4" strip around the edge of the Mattress - really cheesy.
These guys go all Talalay all the way across the bed surface.
- Other guys may use a top layer of Talalay and cheaper stuff underneath - again the guys at Flobeds are all
latex, top to bottom.
- A little bonus: They use a super soft two inch topper with their mattresses. More latex for more
comfort.
A nice touch is that they are hypo-allergenic as well. Turns out bacteria, mold and mildew cannot live in latex.
Awesome!
Sleep EZ - Talalay Latex Mattress Specialist
Sleep EZ is next up - they have been in business for over 70 years, so they must be doing something right. They
are sporting not one, not two, not even three, but four latex mattresses for your sleeping enjoyment. Let's see
here...
- All of their select sleep mattresses are 100% latex. No cheesy polyurethane substitution here. This
matters, by the way, because polyurethane can harden or even crack over time. latex will keep its softness and
comfort for years.
- They explain that as you move up and down the product line, the materials always stay the same, they only
vary the thickness of the foam. This is a good sign. It means that they hold to consistent Mattress standards
across the line.
- Their latex mattresses are covered with cotton/wool cloth. This is pretty much standard in this
industry.
- They go with a Dunlop latex for their standard stuff, but you can get a "premium Talalay blend" at the same
price. I imagine this is a dunlop/Talalay mix.
- Finally, we get to it in their All Natural Organic Mattress Line. Here is where they have 100% Talalay.
It's nice to have a choice. Not everyone can drop $2,000 on a mattress!
- Huge plus here: They let you customize each side of the Mattress to your specs. They have a special layered
system that lets you swap out components until you have it just right. I really like this idea. This means I
can have a really firm side, and she can sleep in a pile of mush. Perfect.
- They have some prices right there on the page - you can get their top of the line in a king for just over
$2,000. That is really good for a Talalay latex mattress.
I like this site - lots of info, easy to navigate, and the prices are right.
