Talalay Latex Mattress
Talalay Latex Mattresses are taking the bedding world by
storm. But is it really that special? How does it differ from older mattress types, and does it really make a
difference?
Let's find out, starting with where it comes
from....
You'll be pleased to learn that latex is a wholly renewable
resource. We get it from rubber trees - and each tree can make up to 4 pounds of rubber per year. The
harvesting process is similar to that of maple.
Rubber can be made into Latex in the standard way or using the
newer Talalay process. The Talalay way produces a higher quality product, but it takes longer, and uses more energy
and man hours. You don't get something for nothing!
Now it's time to turn that raw rubber sent into
some quality Talalay latex. First, the
rubber is whipped like cream to drive air into
it. Then
its poured into rubber casting forms. The forms have spikes
that stick up to make openings in
the finished foam. This is necessary because,
obviously, rubber is a great insulator -so to get the rubber to dry out and cure you need to expose as much surface area to
the air as possible.
After we pour liquid rubber into
our form it is frozen. When it freezes the bubbles that were
formed during whipping create millions of little holes that give the Talalay latex its properties. At this point
the latex is flooded with pressurized CO2 which causes the bubbles to
connect together. Finally, the mold as heated. This cures for latex and makes it tougher and longer
lasting.
After all of this, we pull the latex out and it is thoroughly washed. Then it is carefully dried
and inspected prior to further processing.
All this is certainly an involved process,
but what does it gain us?
In a nutshell, one heck of a high quality
sleeping surface. Talalay latex has some properties they can be found in other mattress types to be
sure. But I
don't think there is another material that has all of these qualities:
-
It conforms to your body's shape regardless of what
position you're an, or how your situated on the bed
-
The material is naturally ventilated dash remember those
interconnected bubbles that we made while we're reforming the latex? These will carry away
moisture and bring in fresh air even while you're sleeping for alternate comfort.
-
You can get Talalay latex mattresses in a range of firmness
options. Elvis is in quite to the level of a select number bed, but if you are tied know how
firm you want it, you can get it.
-
The mattress will bounce back to its original shape every
morning when you get up.
You think elephants forget?
A Talalay mattress remembers nothing.
-
Your Talalay latex mattress
is naturally resistant to microbes and dust mites. This is a huge plus
for those of us that have the allergy problems especially when you consider that you can get it to all
a latex pillow to go with your mattress.
If you can't afford a Talalay mattress, you could always buy a Talalay latex mattress topper, which will at least give you some of the
benefits. Also, remember that it doesn't make a lot of sense to spend a lot of money on a mattress, then
use the same old pillow. You can get a nice Talalay latex pillow for
less than $100.00
To sum up, you should at least be looking at a
natural foam mattress of some kind. You may go another direction, but these fine products will surely give you a
stern yardstick against which to measure their
competitors.
